Bishop will have to defend four straight years of $1 trillion plus deficits
February 14, 2012 – Saying that incumbent Congressman Tim Bishop will have to defend his and President Obama’s record of four straight years of $1 trillion plus deficits on the campaign trail this year, self-made businessman Randy Altschuler today called President Obama’s FY2013 Budget proposal a blueprint for economic disaster.
“After four years together, it’s clear that Barack Obama and Tim Bishop just don’t get it when it comes to sound economic and fiscal policy,” said Altschuler. “They refuse to understand that we cannot tax, spend and borrow our way to economic prosperity and opportunity. Frankly speaking, the President’s latest budget proposal is a blueprint for disaster.”
Altschuler pointed to recent statistics from the US Department of Labor indicating that nearly 13 million people are still unemployed nationally, while an almost additional 3 million haven’t even tried to look for a job in the last month. Altschuler said the problem is even worse on Long Island, where small businesses are the backbone of the economy.
“While the national jobs picture is bleak, it’s even worse here on Long Island,” said Altschuler, pointing to recent Long Island Association economic reports that show job losses in the thousands while other parts of New York State are adding jobs. “Small businesses are the engine of economic growth here in Suffolk County, and the policies of Barack Obama and Tim Bishop are suffocating them.”
